Commentary on gaps in prehospital trauma care: education and bioengineering innovations to improve outcomes in hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury. Brown JB, et al. Trauma Surg Acute Care Open 2024;9:e001122. doi:10.1136/tsaco-2023-001122. Commentary On Gaps in Prehospital Trauma Care Education
The Trauma and ER teams from the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, led by Dr. Joshua Hazelton, recently presented powerful data, detailing the effectiveness of the Infrascanner in detection of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). At the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), the team from Hershey presented a poster of their observations demonstrating that the Infrascanner achieved a Sensitivity of 95% and Specificity of 93% in comparison to a CT for early detection of brain hemorrhage from a traumatic event. Additionally, Infrascanner missed no patients with a surgically significant TBI. The work by Dr. Hazelton’s team adds to the growing clinical evidence that Infrascanner can be a valuable tool in the early assessment of TBI injuries. https://infrascanner.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/SAEM-Poster-20-May-227890.pptx
